Ethan Nwaneri is a footballer who plays for the Premier League (PL) side, Arsenal. The 15-year-old created history when he was sent out as a substitute by manager Mikel Arteta during the Gunners’ match against Brentford, which they won by a scoreline of 3-0. Nwaneri is now the youngest-ever player in PL history. At 15 years and 181 days, he has now one-upped current Liverpool player Harvey Elliot, who made his debut for Fulham when he was 16 years and 30 days old.

Who is Ethan Nwaneri?

Born on March 21, 2007, to Nigerian parents, Ethan Nwaneri joined the Gunners as a nine-year-old. The youngster showed promise from an early age and by the time he was 14, he found himself in the North London club’s under-18 side. When the 2022-23 season began, Nwaneri jumped from the under-18 to the under-21 side, and his impressive form soon prompted club manager Arteta to promote him to the senior team.

While in the under-18 side, Nwaneri made heads turn with his spectacular long-range strike against Reading in the 2021-22 under-18 Premier League season. In the ongoing season, before registering his place in the senior side, Nwaneri already had four goal contributions for the U-18 and U-21 sides.

Goal reports that during a match with the U-18 side against Slough Town, Nwaneri was praised by the opponent’s manager, Neil Baker, who remarked, “Their number 10 has got great feet, he’s only a real youngster”. Further adding, “He’s a real high hope for them at Arsenal. He’s got absolutely unbelievable ability.”

The youngster has also been making his mark in the international circuit, having already been promoted to the U-21 side after representing England at the U-16 level. Nwaneri, who is strong on his left foot, usually plays in a number 10 position as an attacking midfielder. He will remind fans of another number 10 left-footed magician who was fast coming up the ranks at Barcelona in the early 2000s.
