One Twitter user was of the opinion that it was the city that was confused about the current status of the investigation. The user, replying to a comment on why such claims were made, said about the city, “Bc they were incorrect, they got that information for sources saying that he was. It was later reported that the suspect was not caught but cornered in a barn by law enforcement officials. This could have led to the confusion. Raleigh Police later provided an update when the suspect was finally taken into custody:

Raleigh’s mayor, Mary-Ann Baldwin, held a press conference regarding the incident, in which she said, “This is a sad and tragic day for the City of Raleigh”. North Carolina governor, Roy Cooper, said in a statement on Twitter, “I have spoken with Mayor Baldwin and instructed state law enforcement to provide assistance responding to the active shooter in East Raleigh. State and local officers are on the ground and working to stop the shooter and keep people safe.”
