Several people, including police officers, were shot in Neuse River Greenway, Raleigh on Thursday. State governor closely monitoring situation. 

“Attention Knightdale residents: We have been actively monitoring the situation regarding the active shooter in eastern Raleigh, and we can now inform you that the suspect has been captured. There is no longer any threat to the public,” Knightdale city said in a tweet.

“This is still an active investigation. Sections of the Hedingham neighborhood remain closed. Residents should follow the directions of law enforcement officials on the scene,” Raleigh Police tweeted. 

A few minutes after, the department also confirmed that the shooter was taken into custody.

Earlier in the day, authorities said multiple people were wounded in an ‘active shooting’ situation in the Neuse River Greenway neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina.

“State and local officers are on the ground and working to stop the shooter and keep people safe,” Gov. Roy Cooper tweeted.

The Raleigh Police Department said it was “on the scene of an active shooting” in a statement via Twitter, and advised residents in multiple neighborhoods to stay inside their homes.

At least three people were transported to WakeMed Health and Hospitals’ trauma center in connection with the incident, a hospital official confirmed to ABC News. Police closed off several streets in the area, and numerous law enforcement vehicles could be seen parked both in the street and in driveways of two-story homes.

State Highway Patrol, State Capitol Police officers and Alcohol Law Enforcement Special Agents assisted the Raleigh Police Department with the shooting.
