Jose Irizarry accepted that he is known as the most corrupt agent in the history of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Irizarry admitted that he “became another man” in conspiring with Colombian cartels to build a lavish lifestyle of expensive sports cars, Tiffany jewels, and paramours all over the world, Associated Press reported.

According to Irizarry, dozens of other federal agents, prosecutors, informants, and in some cases cartel smugglers were all in on the three-continent joyride known as “Team America,” which chose cities for money laundering pick-ups primarily for partying or to coincide with Real Madrid soccer or Rafael Nadal tennis matches.

Who is Jose Irizarry?

Jose Irizarry worked as a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). On December 9, 2021, he was sentenced to 145 months in prison, or more than 12 years, for running a money laundering and fraud scheme while working as a DEA special agent. Irizarry is 47 years old. He is a native of Puerto Rico, according to the US Justice Department.

Irizarry is fluent in both English and Spanish. Before joining the DEA in 2009, he worked as a federal air marshal and Border Patrol agent. He claimed that as a DEA rookie, he learned the trade from veteran cops who arrived in New York City in the 1990s, when cocaine flooded American streets.

He is married to Nathalia Gomez-Irizarry. His wife, who was spared jail time on a money laundering charge in exchange for Irizarry’s confession, recently informed him that she was seeking a divorce. Irizarry has written a self-published book titled “Getting Back on Track” since his arrest, as part of his effort to own up to his mistakes and pursue a simpler path after bringing so much shame upon himself and his family.
