Lionel Messi-led Argentina defeated Poland in their last Group C game of the FIFA World Cup 2022 to qualify for the knockout stage. Mexico, on the other hand, defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 but were knocked out.
Argentina and Poland will play the round of 16 games, which begin on December 3.
Mexico and Poland tied on points, however, Robert Lewandowski and co were ahead on goal difference. With GD tied at one point, when Andres Guardado’s men were leading 2-0, the qualification would have come down to fair play points – number of yellow and red cards.

Reacting to the results, how Argentina missed a few chances against Poland, social media users said, ‘it was Messi’s perfect revenge on Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez.
After Argentina’s win against Mexico, Messi, in a video, was seen moving the Mexican national team jersey with his foot while celebrating. Alvarez had then posted on Twitter that the No 10 “was cleaning the floor” with the Mexican shirt. He said it was a disrespectful attitude by the Argentina star toward the Mexicans and further threatened the football player.

“Canelo decided to pick on Messi so Messi decided to miss a penalty to send Mexico home 😉,” a social media user tweeted.
Messi missed a key penalty in the first half of the game against Saudi.
“Messi really missed a pen to get revenge on Canelo😭😭😭” another one tweeted.
“No Canelo, you’ve to revenge for ur country, Messi just made sure your country(Mexico) didn’t qualify,” a third one said.
Canelo Alvarez, on Wedneday, apologised to Lionel Messi for threatening the Argentina captain.
