England star player Harry Kane had to fight back the tears after his side crashed out of the World Cup against France in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Kane missed the opportunity of an equalizer by kicking the second penalty over the crossbar, which came just minutes away from the stoppage time. At the time, France was beating Gareth Southgate’s side 2-1.

The England captain sent the game to extra time when he blew his spot-kick wide off the target. This was after he had scored an earlier penalty.

Hugo Lloris, the France goalkeeper, who is a fellow teammate of Kane’s at Tottenham, also went to console the striker before he trudged off towards the dressing room.

Kane was not the only one showing emotions on the grounds of the Al-Bayt Stadium. Midfield sensation Jude Bellingham, who is just a teenager, was in tears and his colleague, Jordan Henderson was forced to put an arm around his shoulder to comfort him.

Speaking to ITV after the loss, Henderson said that people should not shower hate on Kane for missing a penalty.  “We know how many penalties Harry Kane has scored for us. He scored the first one. How many goals he’s contributed for us to even get here. He’ll be stronger for it in the long run, I’m sure. He’s a world-class striker and our captain. We wouldn’t be here without him,” he said.
