Mega Blockbuster: 5 cricketers who have acted in movies

India captain Rohit Sharma, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, as well as actors Rashmika Mandanna and Karthi have shared posters of an upcoming project titled Mega Blockbuster. All the posters say that a trailer for the project will be out on September 4. It was Ganguly who apparently gave away what the project really is. He had initially tagged (now deleted) an account called “meesho” in his post, suggesting that this might be a promotional campaign for an e-commerce platform.

Although Mega Blockbuster might not be a film or TV series, there have been a number of cricketers who have indeed acted in movies. Here we bring you five such names:
Brett Lee
The Australian fast bowler dabbled in music and movies after he ended his cricketing career. In the 2016 Indo-Australian production, UnIndian, Lee was seen alongside Tannishtha Chatterjee. Although the film received mixed reviews, it did fairly well at the box office.
Sunil Gavaskar
The legendary Indian batter, who was the first man to reach the 10,000-runs milestone in Test cricket history, played the leading role in a Marathi film called Savli Premachi. The Little Master also made a guest appearance in the 1988 Hindi film Maalamaal alongside Naseeruddin Shah.

Kapil Dev
India’s first World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev has appeared in a number of cameo roles in both films and television. He acted in two episodes of the popular TV show, C.I.D., and has also made appearances in films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi? and Iqbal. Dev was also seen in the film 83.
Ajay Jadeja
The former Indian cricketer, whose career in the game was cut short after a match-fixing scandal, acted in the 2003 film Khel alongside Sunny Deol and Suniel Shetty. Jadeja as well as another former Indian cricketer, Vinod Kambli, were also seen in Pal Pal Dil Ke Ssat, a 2009 film.

Harbhajan Singh
The offspinner who boasts of 417 Test wickets, has acted in the lead role in the 2021 Tamil film, Friendship. Singh had earlier made cameo appearances in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?, Bhaaji in Problem, Second Hand Husband, and Dikkiloona.
