Rohit
Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team, scored a stormy 21 in 13 balls
against Hong Kong in their second match of the Asia Cup 2022 before being
caught out at mid-off. In the process, Sharma reached an interesting statistic,
the 35-year-old has now scored 12,000 runs as an opener across formats, the
fourth highest score by an Indian opener ever.

For India,
the highest number of runs scored by an opener is by Virender Sehwag. Sehwag, known
for his aggressive batting, has scored 15,758 runs as an opener. He is followed
by all-time cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar who has 15,335 runs as an opener.
The original Little Master, Sunil Gavaskar, has scored 12,258 runs as an opener.
Rohit Sharma reached his 12,000th run on Wednesday.

While Sachin
Tendulkar took 270 matches to reach the 12,000 landmark, Rohit Sharma took 282
matches. Sunil Gavaskar took 282 matches to reach the 12,000-milestone and
Virender Sehwag took 312.

In his
whole cricketing career, Rohit Sharma has played 134 T20 international matches,
in which he played 126 innings. He has scored a total of 3,520 runs with an
average of 31.43 and a strike rate of 139.85. He has scored four centuries and
27 half-centuries in the T20I format.

In one-day
internationals, Rohit Sharma has scored 9,376 runs in 233 matches averaging
48.58 with a strike rate of 89.18. He has 29 ODI centuries and 45 fifties.
