Pinocchio is an upcoming live-action adaptation of Walt Disney’s animated version of Pinocchio, the 1940 work, which in turn was based on the 1883 book by the Italian author Carlo Collodi, The Adventures of Pinocchio. 

Tom Hanks plays Geppetto in the movie. He’s the elderly Italian woodcarver who makes Pinocchio. 

The movie is slated to be released on September 8 on Disney Plus and has been directed by Robert Zemeckis, a longtime collaborator with whom Hanks has made movies like Castaway and Forrest Gump. 

Cynthia Erivo plays the role of The Blue Fairy who brought Pinocchio to life and other cast members include Luke Evans who is cast as the Coachman, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli, Sheila Atim as Signora Vitelli among others.

Benjamin Ainsworth voices the character. Pinocchio follows the story of a wooden toy who goes on an adventure wishing to be a real boy. Sofia the Seagull is a new character in the movie who was not there in the original story. 

Speaking of working with Hanks on the 2022 movie, Zemeckis said “Tom Hanks is the greatest living actor in the movie business, and it’s always fun to see Tom bring a character to life. his portrayal of Geppetto is spot on, wonderful and very warm. Tom can do anything. He brought more to the role than I ever could have imagined.”
