Despite negative indications from other Asian markets, mixed activity on Dalal Street continued in the late morning session, with both the Sensex and the Nifty trading in the red zone.

Hang Seng lost 242.66 points or 0.97% to 24,857.01, Nikkei 225 down 126.18 points or 0.43% to 29,520.90, KOSPI fell 34.50 points or 1.14% to 2,978.99, Shanghai Composite fell 13.17 points or 0.38% to 3,492.46 and Straits Times fell 13.04 points or 0.4% to 3,219.33. On the other hand, the Jakarta Composite rose 31.36 points, or 0.48%, to 6,524.64, while the Taiwan Weighted gained 46.66 points, or 0.27%, to 17,112.63.

The BSE Sensex is now trading at 59,917.09, down 116.34 points or -0.19% after fluctuating between 60133.00 and 60361.82. On the index, there were 21 stocks that advanced and 9 stocks that declined.

The wider indexes were trading in the green, with the BSE Midcap index up 0.12% and the Small-cap index up 0.20%.

Capital Goods increased by 2.65%, Realty increased by 1.87%, Industrials increased by 1.30%, Metal increased by 1.01%, and Basic Materials increased by 0.69% on the BSE, while Telecom decreased by 0.55%, Consumer Durables decreased by 0.48%, FMCG decreased by 0.29%, Energy decreased by 0.11%, and Auto decreased by 0.08%.

Larsen & Toubro rose 4.82%, Tech Mahindra rose 1.94%, Ultratech Cement rose 1.62%, Kotak Mahindra Bank rose 1.10%, and Infosys rose 0.87% on the Sensex. On the other hand, Sun Pharma is down 1.84%, Titan Company is down 0.82%, Bharti Airtel is down 0.75%, Hindustan Unilever is down 0.46%, and ICICI Bank is down 0.44%.

The Nifty is presently trading at 17,863.60, down 25 points or -0.14% from a low of 17926.15 and a high of 17988.75. On the index, there were 35 stocks that advanced and 15 stocks that declined.

Larsen & Toubro gained 4.92%, UPL gained 4.09%, Indian Oil Corp. gained 2.29%, Hindalco gained 2.07%, and Tech Mahindra gained 1.88% on the Nifty. On the other hand, Sun Pharma is down 1.97%, Divi’s Lab is down 1.20%, Britannia is down 0.89%, Titan Co is down 0.87%, and Bharti Airtel is down 0.83%.
