The 30-share BSE Sensex index jumped 740.34 or 1.28% to
close at 58,683.99. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty surged 172.95 points or 1% to settle
at 17,498.25.

Among the sectoral indices, IT, bank, auto, capital
goods, and realty indices are up 1% each, while the metal index is down nearly
3% and oil & gas is down 1%. BSE midcap and smallcap indices are up 0.8% to
1.2%.

Here are the key stocks that moved most during today’s
trading session:

Tata Consumer Products: The share price jumped 3% to
close at Rs 765.50 after the company announced a merger plan and acquisition of
a stake in a UK subsidiary. It has approved the Composite Scheme of Arrangement
among the company Tata Coffee and TCPL Beverages & Foods and their
respective shareholders and creditors.

Axis Bank: The share closed 2.26% higher at Rs 754.50
after Citibank announced selling its India retail business to Axis bank. The
private lender will buy Citigroup’s India consumer business for $1.6 billion.
Citigroup will transfer 3,600 employees to Axis Bank, according to a CNBC-TV18
report.

ONGC: The oil & gas stock tanked 5.38% to close at Rs
161.80 as the government proposes to sell 0.75% equity or 9.43 crore equity
shares through an offer for sale (OFS) on March 30 and March 31. The floor
price of the offer has been fixed at Rs 159 per share. The government also has
the option of selling another lot of more than 9.43 crore shares via OFS, collectively
representing 1.5% of the company.

Maruti Suzuki India
and Tata Motors:
Shares of Maruti closed 2% at Rs 7,587.80 and Tata Motors
shares closed 0.25% at Rs 434.80 after the government made six bags mandatory
for economic models as well.
