Two days after a Bengaluru woman alleged that a Zomato delivery executive had attacked her, the accused put forward his version of the events on Friday. The executive, identified as Kamraj,  has alleged that it was Hitesha Chandranee who attacked him when he asked for money for the food delivered.

“I handed her the food and I was expecting her to pay me…I also apologize since the delivery was delayed due to traffic and bad roads…” Kamraj told the website The News Minute. He alleged that she refused to pay for the food. He added that a Zomato official then informed him that the order had been cancelled. He asked her to return the food since the order was cancelled. She refused to return the food, the report added. He says he decided to leave the premises when she allegedly began hitting and abusing him in Hindi.

“She then accidentally hurt herself during the incident, causing her to bleed,” the reports added.

The incident was reported on Wednesday when Chandranee shared videos in which she showed her injuries allegedly caused by the attack. Chandranee said she was talking to the Zomato customer care executive about the delayed delivery when Kamraj “hit” her and left, leaving her bleeding.

Zomato suspended Kamaraj, who now has a police case registered against him. A day after the incident, he was summoned by the police and reportedly questioned for two hours. “The police did not disrespect me in any way. But now I have to spend ₹ 25,000 for legal expenses to prevent my arrest,” Kamaraj told the website.

Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal today tweeted saying, “Right from the get go, our topmost priority has been to get to the truth.” He said his company will follow all legal procedures and assist both sides.

“Also, for the record – Kamaraj has made (approximately) 5,000 deliveries for us so far, and has a 4.75/5 star rating on our platform (which is one of the highest), and has been working with us for 26 months now. (These are facts, not opinions, or inferences),” Mr Goyal tweeted.
