Pakistan cricket team’s star pacer Hasan Ali
has been punished for breaching Level 1 the ICC Code of Conduct while featuring
in his side’s first T20 International against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday.
The player was found guilty of being in violation of Article 2.5 of the ICC
Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel.

Article 2.5 of ICC’s Code of Conduct relates
to “using
language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an
aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an
International Match.”

A demerit point has been added to Hasan Ali’s
disciplinary record for an inappropriate send off of Bangladeshi batter Narul
Hasan. The batter was caught behind in the 17th over of the home
side’s innings when the incident occurred. It was Hasan Ali’s first offence in
the last 24 months.

Bangladesh cricket team did not escape unscathed
either as the side had to bear the grunt of losing 20 percent of the match fees
for maintaining a slow over rate in the match. Mahmudullah’s side were ruled to
be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into
consideration.

Neither of Hasan Ali or Bangladesh’s skpper
Mahmudullah objected to the offences and accepted the sanctions imposed on them
by Neeyamur Rashid.

Rashid is an official of the ICC International
Panel of Match Referees and has been ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations
Department as per the coronavirus interim playing regulations. A formal hearing
was not required for either of the instances.

official Tanvir Ahmed.

Since Hasan Ali’s breached the Level 1 of the
Code of Conduct he could have received a minimum penalty of an official reprimand
or a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee and one or two
demerit points.
