The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday said that all the state education boards must declare their results for class 12 by July 31. The state boards also have to come up with an assessment scheme within 10 days, based on which the results will be prepared, said SC.
This comes after the apex court on June 17 sought a response from Assam, Punjab, Tripura, and Andhra Pradesh whether they would cancel the board exams for class 12 or not.
A Supreme Court bench earlier noted that out of 28 states, 6 states have already conducted examinations, 18 states have cancelled it, but four states (Assam, Punjab, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh) have not cancelled the examination so far. Following this, Assam cancelled the class 12 board exams in the state.
Earlier, the court ordered CBSE and CISCE to come up with an assessment plan to evaluate class 12 results. The scheme was approved by the court on June 17.
The board told the Supreme Court that the results will be decided on the basis of performance in Class 10 (30% weightage), Class 11 (30% weightage) and Class 12 (40% weightage).
The bench also noted the submission of Attorney General K K Venugopal, assisting the court in an individual capacity and also appearing for the Centre, that University Grants Commission (UGC) will issue directives to all the colleges and varsities that admissions be made after the declaration of results by all the boards — CBSE, CISCE and state boards.
The CBSE board also declared that it will announce the result by July 31.
