Chris Rock will return to the stage this week for his ongoing comedy tour, despite being slapped on the Oscars stage by Will Smith for a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, on Sunday night.

The on-screen brawl is one of the most dramatic unforeseen incidents in Academy Awards history, made extra strange by Smith accepting the prize for best actor less than an hour later.

The dramatic moment did, however, appear to motivate some people to purchase tickets to see Rock perform live; one secondary ticketing marketplace, TickPick, reported that they have sold more tickets to the comedian’s tour overnight than they did in the previous month combined. They also say that ticket prices have risen since Sunday night, from a low of $46 per ticket on March 18 to a high of $341.

Rock will play six gigs at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre from March 30 to April 1 before launching his Ego Death World Tour on April 2. While tickets for his Boston gigs were rapidly sold out, they are still available on resale sites such as Vivid Seats, Ticketmaster, and Stubhub. The comedian will then fly to more than 30 cities for the North American leg of his tour, which will be his first time performing new material throughout the country in five years.

“Lauded by peers and critics alike, Chris Rock is one of our generation’s strongest comedic voices,” a Live Nation statement said. “With a career spanning more than three decades, Rock has enjoyed ongoing success in both film and television as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and director.”

The tour presently has 38 performances booked, including stops in major cities including Las Vegas, Denver, Oakland, Seattle, New York, Chicago, and Toronto. After Boston, he’ll perform two gigs at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City before ending up on November 17 at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.
