Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson has died at the age of 26, his team announced Wednesday. His cause of death was not revealed.

“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the team said. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality.”

“We express our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn a life lost much too soon.”

Ferguson’s agent, Safarrah Lawson, also released a statement saying: “It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Baltimore Ravens LB Jaylon Ferguson. The family asks for your prayers and privacy during this trying time.”

Ferguson was an American football outside linebacker and defensive end of the National Football League (NFL). He played three seasons for the Baltimore Ravens and played college football at Louisiana Tech until he was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He played 14 games during his rookie season and had 31 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

In 2020, Ferguson played in 14 games and had 30 tackles and 2 sacks. In 2021, he only played in 10 games and had six sacks during that season.

He made his first NFL start on November 3 against the New England Patriots. Just days later, he recorded his first-career sack against the Houston Texans, bringing down Deshaun Watson in the second quarter.

Three weeks post that, he recorded his second sack against the Buffalo Bills, sacking Josh Allen.

Ferguson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Ravens on November 28, 2020, but was activated two days later.

Ferguson has two children – a son and a daughter.
