Michael K. Williams, who is known for his role in the American drama series ‘The Wire’, was found in his residence in New York on Monday afternoon, according to US media reports citing law enforcement officials.

“No foul play indicated”, a police official told the New York Post. The official added that there were no signs of forced entry in the actor’s New York penthouse, which was found to be in order.

According to reports from the New York Post, the five-time Emmy nominated actor was found deceased in the living room of his apartment, which is located at Kent Avenue, by his newphew.

Apparatus required to use drugs were found in Willam’s apartment, which hints at a possibility of a drug overdose, the New York Post reported. The report added, citing statements from unnamed sources, that the drugs could possibly be fentanyl or heroin.

The 54-year-old had often spoken about his struggles with being addicted to drugs through a major chunk of his career in the entertainment industry. He previously said that his role in ‘The Wire’ impacted him off-screen too.

Williams’ spokesperson, in a statement to the Guardian, asked for privacy for the deceased actor family. The spokesperson said that it is “with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss”, the Guardian reported.

Williams was often seen on projects produced by HBO. In addition to ‘The Wire’, the 54-year-old was seen in shows like ‘Lovecraft Country’, ‘Broadwalk Empire’ and ‘The Night Off’.

Williams was also featured in a fair share of movies, which included ’12 Years a Slave’, ‘The Road’, ‘Inherent Vice’ and ‘Gone Baby Gone’.
