On May 15, Alec Baldwin posted a photo to Instagram to commemorate the last day of Rust filming. This comes three weeks after he was cleared of all charges in the shooting death of filmmaker Halyna Hutchins. Consequently, the happy post has drawn a lot of criticism on the social media site.

Baldwin, 65, revealed in the selfie he posted on Instagram on Tuesday that he had removed the facial hair that had been on his character in the Western movie. He captioned the photo, “God, it felt good to shave off that beard.”

Baldwin also paid thanks to his 13-year-old sidekick in the caption by stating that the picture was taken on set with them both beaming in front of a gorgeous mountain backdrop.

‘Last day on the set of RUST with this guy,’ wrote Alec. ‘A very talented actor and lovely young man with a bright future ahead. My love to you, @patrickscottmcdermott.’

McDermott responded to the post by commenting ‘Love you Alec’ before posting a picture of the two hugging on set with the caption: ‘Alec’s last day [heart emoji] I’ll miss you.’

In October 2021, Hutchins was killed on the set by a live bullet after Baldwin fired a pretend gun by accident while practicing a scene.

The director of Rust, Joel Souza, who was wounded by the same gunshot that killed Hutchins, and the Beetlejuice actor was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in January.

The case against Baldwin fell apart very easily. The first special prosecutor assigned to the case resigned as a result of the dismissal of a weapons allegation that would have resulted in a substantially lengthier sentence. This came in spite of a scathing FBI report that found Baldwin did indeed fire the gun that murdered Hutchins, despite his repeated denials to the contrary.

The criminal case against Baldwin was dismissed without prejudice by prosecutors. They noted that “new facts were revealed that demand further investigation and forensic analysis which cannot be completed” prior to the preliminary hearing. Thus, the inquiry is still “active and ongoing” in this case.

In a statement on April 20, special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis provided more details about their choice, stating that it “does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled.”
