The 74th edition of the BAFTA Awards, which will be a two-day event, started handing out the highly awaited awards. According to a Tweet posted by Clara Amfo just minutes before the scheduled broadcast commenced, a total of seven awards will be announced on the first day, in addition to the pre-decided special award being presented to Noel Clarke.
The categories which were announced are Costume Design, Casting, Production Design, Animation and Short film among others.
The first award to be revealed one Day 1 was in the Casting category where films like ‘Calm With Horses’, ‘Minari’, ‘Promising Young Woman ‘ were nominated. However, Lucy Pardee’s ‘Rocks’ was announced as the winner. Pardee gave the credit to the team behind the film and said, “I’m only here because you guys are so brilliant,” while accepting the award.

The second award, which was presented in the category of ‘Costume Design’ was bagged by Ann Roth for her contribution in the film ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. The flick went to secure its second award of the evening in the category of ‘Makeup and Hair’. The accolade was presented to Matiki Anoff, Larry M. Cherry, Sergio Lopez-Rivera and Mia Neal. The group said, “We are thrilled to receive this award,” while accepting the award.
Donald Graham Burt and Jan Pascale were next in line to receive see their nomination turn into an award in the category of ‘Production Design’ for the 2020 movie ‘Mank’. The pair expressed their gratitude for the entire production crew of the film while they accepted the award.

In the ‘British Short Film’ category, ‘The Present’ bagged the award, beating the four other films nominated in the category. Films like ‘Miss Curvy’, ‘Lucky Break’, ‘Lizard’ among others were competing for the award. Farah Nabulsi, the director of the winning movie, dedicated the honour to the people of Palestine.
The ‘British Short Animation’ category only had a handful of nominations from flicks like ‘The Fire Next Time’, ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ and ‘The Song of a Lost Boy’. ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ was announced as the winner in the category.
‘Tenet’, a movie which has sent movie lovers buzzing with the quality of the rich storyline and effects, bagged the award in the category of ‘Special Visual Effects’. The award was presented to Scott Fisher, Andrew Jackson, Andrew Lockley.
The final award of the evening was presented in the category of ‘Sound’ and was given to ‘Sound of Metal’, to which BAFTA wrote on Twitter, “Sound of Metal is the aptly named winner in the Sound category.” The award was presented to Jaime Baksht, Nicolas Becker, Phillip Bladh, Carlos Cortés and Michelle Couttolenc.
