The 21st annual BET Awards was held at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on Sunday evening. Hosted by award-winning actor Taraji P. Henson, the awards ceremony recognises Black excellence across music, film, and sports. The theme for this year’s event was “Year of the Black Woman.”
“I’m so excited to be here, with humans. Tonight you’ll get 100% of our full Blackness. This is where we matter. Where our Black entertainment matters. This is 2021, and we’re celebrating the year of the Black woman. Celebrating Black women is not a fad or a trend, it’s a forever mood,” Henson said at the beginning of the event.
Several artists, including H.E.R., Lil Baby, Migos, DaBaby, DJ Khaled, Method Man and Lil Durk performed at Sunday’s event. However, the one performance that caught everyone’s attention was that of rapper Cardi B who broke the news of her pregnancy onstage.
