Christine McVie, the co-lead vocalist, and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac died at the age of 79, her family has revealed.

McVie’s family issued a statement regarding her demise, saying she was “a revered musician who was loved universally.”

“She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being,” the statement said.

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971 as a permanent member.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, McVie’s net worth was an estimated $105 million as of 2022. This means that McVie was the second wealthiest member of Fleetwood Mac, behind lead singer Stevie Nicks.

Apart from being a vocalist and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac, McVie also released three solo albums. Her lyrics focused on love and relationships.

In 1998, McVie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Fleetwood Mac. She also received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. The same year, she opted to leave the band, having spent almost 30 years with them, and took a semi-retirement for nearly 15 years. In 2004, she released a solo album. In September 2013 she appeared on stage with Fleetwood Mac at the O2 Arena in London, before rejoining the band in the following year.

She has also received two Grammy Awards.

Christine McVie relationship

Three years before she became a permanent member of Fleetwood Mac, she married British bass guitarist John McVie, after dating him for just two weeks. 

However, their marriage was a tumultuous one. Apart from frequent touring, John’s habit of heavy drinking caused problems in his marriage to Christine. In 1976, during the recording of Rumours, John and Christine McVie’s marriage fell apart and the couple divorced the same year.

The couple divorced in 1976, but remained friends and maintained a professional partnership. During the production of Rumours, she had an affair with Fleetwood Mac’s lighting engineer, Curry Grant, which inspired the song You Make Loving Fun.

From 1979 to 1982, she dated Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. On October 18, 1986, McVie married Portuguese keyboardist and songwriter Eddy Quintela. Quintela and McVie collaborated on a number of songs together. They divorced in 2003, and Quintela died in 2020.

McVie was born in the Lake District village of Bouth, Lancashire, and grew up near Birmingham.

Her father was Cyril Percy Absell Perfect – a concert violinist and music lecturer at St Peter’s College of Education, Birmingham. He also taught violin at St Philip’s Grammar School, Birmingham. McVie’s mother, Beatrice Edith Maud Perfect, was a medium, psychic, and faith healer.

McVie’s grandfather was an organist at Westminster Abbey.
