John Cena
is here with the ‘Peacemaker’. HBO Max just released the trailer of their
upcoming TV series as the DC FanDome goes on Saturday.

The series,
that premiers in January next year, stars John Cena in the titular role, Steve
Agee as John Economos, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

HBO
released the trailer through a Youtube video.

James Gunn
is the writer of the series, writing all eight episodes, while also running the
show. Gunn wrote all the episodes of the series while completing work on The
Suicide Squad during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was before HBO Max officially
ordered Peacemaker straight-to-series in September 2020.

The
Peacemaker is Christopher Smith, a pacifist diplomat who becomes so dedicated
to peace that he was willing to use force as a superhero to preserve it. He has
a range of special non-lethal weapons. He also founded the Pax Institute.

The
character was created by writer Joe Gill and artist Pat Boyette. It first
appeared in Fightin’ 5 #40 (November 1966).

Cena’s
Peacemaker was also Gunn’s gift to the movie adaptation, which is described as a
“douchey version of Captain America.” James Gunn shared a Peacemaker poster on
their Instagram profile as part of NYCC this week.

The poster
also includes a phone number that fans can call and when dialed, are told “you
have now joined the Task Force X meeting, which Peacemaker was late to…”

The image
encourages fans to take a photo of themselves saluting under a ‘wanted’ ad of
Peacemaker.

The fact
that Gunn also has more DC projects in the works has really helped build the
anticipation for Peacemaker and how the DC Universe will come together.
