The first trailer of Emraan Hashmi’s immensely speculated Indo-American film ‘Harami’ dropped on Monday. The film traces a story of juvenile crime, love and redemption with the relentless Mumbai at its core.
The film, written and directed by Shyam Madiraju — whose directional debut was in 2014 with ‘Eden’ — portrays Hashmi as a merciless crime lord who heads a gang of pickpockets in Mumbai and marks his return to international cinema six years after his collaboration with the Oscar-winning director Danis Stanovich for Tigers (2014).
The film features newcomers Rizwan Shaikh (16-year-old) as ‘Pachpan’, the leader of the syndicate of pickpockets and Dhanashree Patil playing ‘Uma’, his love interest.
The plot seemingly traces the path of Pachpan’s redemption, in spite of obstruction from his boss, played by Hashmi.
Earlier in an interview, Hashmi had said, “It was Shyam’s script that really attracted me to his project. And his obsession with details, it was very contagious.”
Emraan Hashmi Films has co-produced the movie with US-based Germ Collective and other US producing partners.
Sharing the trailer on social media, the makers wrote: “Official selection to New Currents main competition section of Busan International Film Festival 2020. Harami is a hard-hitting, visually striking street saga of youth crime and broken destinies, love and redemption, played out against the vibrant backdrop of chaotic and relentless Mumbai.”
‘Harami’ will have the world premiere at the Busan International Film festival in October and has been nominated for the best film, best director and the best audience award.
