Tony-winning actress Frances Sternhagen, who had a long career in theater and film, passed away on Monday in New Rochelle, New York, from natural causes.

In addition to receiving two Emmy nominations, Sternhagen was acknowledged for her recurrent roles as Cliff’s mother on “Cheers” and as Dr. Carter’s (Noah Wyle) regal grandmother on “ER.”
