Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut was conferred with Padma Shri award, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, on Monday. The actor flew down to Delhi to receive the award from President Ramnath Kovind at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
After receiving the award, the ‘Thalaivi’ actor shared her proud moment on Instagram.
“Humbled for this great honour… Padmashri. Heartfelt gratitude for my Guru and Parents. I am grateful for being adarsh nagrik of the country. Extremely grateful to the Government of India for this prestigious honour that she received for being a citizen of this country,” she can be heard saying in the clip.
Other Padma awardees from the world of entertainment were singer Adnan Sami, film director and producer Karan Johar and film and television producer Ekta Kapoor.
Interestingly, Kangana and Karan, who have been at loggerheads for long, received the awards in the same year.
Earlier, during an interview with India Today, Kangana addressed the issue saying, “I heartily congratulate him, I think he totally deserves this award.”
“As a producer, the kind of films he backs, whether it is ‘Kesari’ or ‘Good Newwz’, are commendable, as is the position he has worked to achieve. Even though his father gave him a head start, he has risen to the top because of his own efforts and merit.”
The Padma awards were presented to 119 awardees. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards.
Meanwhile, Kangana received the National Film Award for the fourth time earlier this year. She was honoured with the Best Actress Award for her performances in the films ‘Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi’ and ‘Panga’.
In a note post her National Film Award win, she wrote, “We all grow up with a deep desire to be worthy of our parents love, care and sacrifices…After all the troubles I give my mummy papa such days seem to make up for all those mischiefs. Thank you for being my mummy papa I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
