Aryans, one of the popular music band from the 90s, has given some chart-topping numbers including ‘Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra’,
‘Dekha Hai Teri Aankhon Ko’ and ‘Yeh Hawa Kehti Hai Kya’ but later, their members chose different directions leaving behind
thousands of their fans and music lovers disheartened. So what exactly went
wrong?

In
an interview with Opoyi, Sadasivan KM Nambisan aka Sadu, one of the voices and
the founder member of the band, who has recently come out with his new single
‘Khoj’ based on the words of the renowned poet Nida Fazli, says that “there can
never be a deliberate attempt to break a winning combination like Aryans.”

“…
but circumstances do arise. In India unfortunately one cannot keep music as a
profession to earn bread. We need a parallel source of income to feed your
family. I started a pharmaceutical company and my partners pursued other
options professionally and were settled in different cities of India.

“It
wasn’t easy to pull off the band since it requires a lot of closeness and regular
meet-ups to compose and do music which was lacking. Ultimately, We all have to
walk ahead in life. My anxiety was always to work very hard on my songs,
release them and make them reach the maximum audience. God willing now I am in
a position to produce my music, its video and promote it simultaneously as
well, me going solo is a situation borne destiny’s child,” he told Opoyi.

Riding
on the overwhelming response that Sadu received for his live ghazal renditions
and his last ghazal pop single called ‘Aankh Se Door Na Ho’, the
vocalist/composer has now come up with his new video single titled ‘Khoj: In
Search of Self’.

Based
on the words of the renowned poet Nida Fazli, Khoj is an intense pop-ghazal
that explores the difficult subjects of loneliness and the search for
self.

Talking
about how the album will connect with millennials who are more inclined towards
Hip Hop, Rap, or Bollywood music, Sadu said, “The new generation is deprived of
the fantasy of ghazals hence thought of bringing the mystic ambience back to
the South Asian audience with the latest sound so they can relate to it
easily.”

“I
believe the three major parameters for music are easy lyrics, simple melody,
and tailor-made music arrangement, therefore making it palatable for this
generation without disturbing the essence of the actual style of ghazals. I
have of course taken the task of letting the new lads know of other options as
well,” he said.

Speaking
further on the idea behind the song, he says that Khoj as the name suggests
talks about the search for the inner self.

“As
we get matured it brings more responsibilities and we are lost in this selfish
world slogging ourselves to fulfill our needs and comforts. It’s true that we
are indeed living in the illusion of what we ain’t and are getting greedy every
day. We often relate and enjoy the memories of childhood when we all weren’t
materialistic but innocent,” he said.

Coming
from a time when music used to heal souls with melodious numbers, how he sees
the music trend of 2020? He replied, “The Indian industry is dominated
heavily by film songs. These days even all film songs sound stereotypical and
there is no versatility. Item songs are deep, cheap, and suffocating. Remix and
Cover of an old song is the last thing a genuine musician should do as it’s
plagiarism. Rest there is rap which is done by a non-singer/musician to
entertain you, mostly with vulgar abuses, teasing women, and praising
liquor/drugs which I strictly don’t endorse.

“There
are few original independent, folk & classical artists whom I appreciate
but they have limited audience so … ‘REST WHERE IS MUSIC’. There is a lack of
nice melody and good lyrics like in the ’90s when all the independent artists
put their hearts out. (sic),” he said.

So
what next?

“My perception about music is
that it’s like a kite, the more you loosen the string the higher it climbs into
the sky. I love experimentation and am always open to trying out new
permutation and combinations in the arrangement for my compositions. I believe
Independent music is one genre where music is a free bird, having the
never-ending desire of perspectives and to explore the unknown possibilities,” he sumps up by adding that there are lots of songs in production to be released in the coming months.
