To celebrate his contribution to the Hindi cinema, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2020 will be commemorating Irrfan Khan’s legacy and the festival will be screening his ‘Song of Scorpion’.

Khan, who died at the age of 53, came a long way to work in Hollywood with his unconventional acting skills.

The actor was seen in Hollywood’s big hits including ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Inferno’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and crossover dramas such as ‘The Namesake’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Life of Pi’.

Khan began his acting career starring in theatre and further got fame in Bollywood movies before going on to explore the western cinema. Although there was a time in the 1990s when Khan was considering to quit showbiz.

Khan once told IANS how his move to work in the Hollywood path was initially met with criticism.

“My colleagues and industry people always said ‘Hollywood mein kya hai’. But things have changed. Now, nationality is not important,” he had said to IANS.

He also starred in the 2017 film “The Song Of Scorpions”, and 2007 movie “A Mighty Heart”, which also featured Angelina Jolie, besides the Indo-German short film “The Cloud Door” (1994).

The actor, who was last seen in ‘Angrezi Medium’, passed away on April 29 this year.

In 2018, the actor was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour and was recovering from the disease after treatment in London.

Soon after his demise, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, better known as the Oscars, honoured the actor.

 “A mainstay of Bollywood cinema and incredible talent in films like “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Life of Pi” and “The Namesake,” Irrfan Khan left his imprint on global cinema. An inspiration to millions, he will be greatly missed,” the official Twitter account of Academy reads.

Achievements

Irrfan was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian, the National Film Award for Best Actor and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor in his career.
