Hollywood icon Jennifer Lopez seized the opportunity of presenting her 14-year-old daughter to the world on Thursday at the LA Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala in Los Angeles, California.
However, something stood out in her speech. Lopez used ‘they’, a gender-neutral pronoun, to introduce 14-year-old Emme Maribel Muñiz.
“The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this, and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won’t,” Lopez told the crowd. “So this is a very special occasion. They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey,” she said on Thursday, according to Fox News.
“They cost me when they come out. But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me,” Lopez added.
The duo then walked on stage to deliver an electrifying performance of Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’, with Muñiz holding a sparkly rainbow mic.
“Give it up for my baby,” Lopez said towards the end of the duet.
The 52-year-old ‘On The Floor’ singer shared glimpses of the gala, which raised $3.6 million for philanthropic causes, on Twitter, including an image of Muñiz.
This isn’t the first time that the duo has shared the stage. In 2020, Lopez and Muñiz performed at the Super Bowl LIV Halftime show, which was filmed from start to finish for ‘Halftime’, the 52-year-old’s latest documentary.
