Actor Johnny Depp will be felicitated at the
Camerimage Award for an actor with unique visual sensitivity, remotely from the
U.S., during the 28th EnergaCamerimage international cinematography festival,
reports Hollywoodreporter.com. The event will happen from November 14 till 21
at Torun in Poland.

Also, Depp starring feature film “Minamata”, in which he played the role of a war photographer W. Eugene Smith,  will be the festival’s closing night film,
announced the organizers.

“To say that Johnny Depp immersed
himself completely in the role of W. Eugene Smith would be a gross
understatement. He literally disappeared into his true-to-life character,
making the famed photographer yet another in a series of mesmerizing
performances that captured the attention of the worldwide audience,” said
festival organizers in a released statement.

“From his breakthrough role in Tim
Burton’s Edward Scissorhands to Minamata’s Smith and the upcoming turn as
archvillain Gellert Grindelwald in helmer David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts and
Where to Find Them 3, Johnny Depp earned himself a reputation of a true acting
chameleon capable of handling basically everything that the screenwriters,
directors, costume designers, make-up artists and others threw at him,” added
the organizers.

The Festival recently announced its
main competition lineup, with 12 films vying for the event’s Golden Frog. The
list includes Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland, lensed by Joshua James Richards; and
Francis Lee’s Ammonite, DP’ed by Stéphane Fontaine. Respected three-time Oscar
winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro returns to the event with Woody
Allen’s Rifkin’s Festival, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

In three of the past five years, the
winners of Camerimage’s Golden Frog have gone on to earn Oscar nominations in
cinematography. Those films include
2015’s Carol, 2016’s Lion and 2019’s Joker. The 2017 Camerimage champ,
On Body and Soul, was nominated in the foreign-language film Oscar category.
