According to her family’s announcement on Friday, Josephine Chaplin, the daughter of legendary actor and director Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill, died on July 13 in Paris. She has died at the age of 74.

Her father, Charlie Chaplin, made illustrious contributions to the film business and is still remembered as a key player in the development of cinema. As the news of her death surfaced several people have shown interest in her life.

Career-

Josephine Chaplin gained fame in the film business during her career by playing the lead in several international films. She made appearances in Richard Balducci’s “L’odeur des fauves” and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s critically praised film “The Canterbury Tales” in 1972. In the same year, she and Laurence Harvey co-starred in Menahem Golan’s drama “Escape to the Sun,” which was about a group of people trying to escape the Soviet Union.

Alongside actors Gayle Hunnicutt and Jacques Champreux, Chaplin played Martine Leduc in Georges Franju’s European criminal thriller “Shadowman” in 1974. The Man Without a Face, a criminal on a mission to locate the enigmatic relics of the Knights Templar, is the main character in the movie. Later, she played Martine again in the eight-episode French miniseries “The Man Without a Face,” which was an expanded version of Franju’s original film.

Family-

Maurice Ronet, a French actor, and Josephine Chaplin had a son together, Julien Ronet. They shared a home up until Maurice died in 1983. She had a child named Charly while she was married to Greek furrier Nicholas Sistovaris.

In 1989, Josephine Chaplin wed the French anthropologist Jean-Claude Gardin; their child was named Arthur. They stayed together till Jean-Claude passed away in 2013.
