On the red carpet of the 76th Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, a woman protested while wearing the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Before being taken by security personnel, the demonstrator smeared fake blood on herself on the steps of the Palais des Festivals during the showing of French director Just Philippot’s movie Acide.

The Cannes Film Festival’s artistic director, Thierry Fremaux, reportedly declared before the event’s start last week that it supported Ukraine. The Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka’s poem Hope was spoken by French actress Catherine Deneuve as an homage to the war dead at the festival’s opening ceremony.

Following its implementation last year, the festival’s ban on Russian delegations and companies with ties to the Russian government is still in effect this year, according to the Telegraph.
