Apple is an American multinational technology company that specialises in consumer electronics as well as softwares. The company was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. 

The company started out as Apple Computer Company but the name was quickly changed after it was incorporated, to Apple Computer Inc. These days, the company is known as just Apple. 

Apple sold its first computer, the Apple I personal computer in 1976. Barely a year later, the company went on to build and sell the Apple II, which quickly became a hit. The founders took the company public barely a few years later in 1980, to great commercial success. 

However, problems began to develop at the company as power struggles between executives began to take the forefront. As a result, Wozniak quit the company to pursue other interests while Jobs left the company to found NeXT. 

By the 1990s, the market for personal computers was booming and Microsoft was expanding quickly into the sector. The company brought back Jobs in 1997, handing him the reins. Over the next few years Jobs brought the company back from the brink and simultaneously introduced a new host of consumer electronics to the computer companies arsenal in the form of the iMac, iPad, iPhone and iPod. 

As the figure head of the company, Jobs eventually stepped back citing health reasons, which was found to be pancreatic cancer. He resigned in 2011 and died two months later. Tim Cook replaced him. 

Apple is one of the few companies in the world which are valued at over $1 trillion. The company reached the milestone in 2018. Apple has often been in the limelight over its anti-competitive practices and how it enforces labour practices with its suppliers. At the same time however, the company has garnered loyalty for the high-quality products that it produces.
