For those unversed, KL Rahul was supposed to lead Team India in the home series against South Africa earlier this month. A day before the beginning of the series, KL Rahul was ruled out owing to a right groin injury that he sustained during training. Rishabh Pant was named the captain in the Opener’s absence.
“Hard to accept but I begin another challenge today. Gutted not to be leading the side for the first time at home, but the boys have all my support from the sidelines. Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Wishing Rishabh and the boys all the luck for the series. See you soon,” Rahul had said in a tweet at the time.
The series ended in a tie after the fifth and final match of the series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru got washed out due to rains.

KL Rahul was then ruled out of the ‘fifth’ Test against England in Birmingham due to a recurring groin injury. The match is scheduled to be played from July 1.
“Rahul has not recovered from his groin injury. The Test squad members are assembling in Mumbai today and will fly out midnight. Rahul is not travelling with the team. He will take some more time to recover although he might appear in a fitness test during weekend. Chances of recovery aren’t looking bright,” a BCCI official privy to the development had told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
