Len Goodman, a former professional ballroom dancer and ex-judge of Dancing With The Stars, died at hospice care on Saturday surrounded by his family in Tunbridge Wells, Kent at the age of 78.

Jackie Gill, Goodman’s agent said in a statement: “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78. A much-loved husband, father, and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.”

Goodman started dancing at the age of 19. By his twenties, he was competing in various competitions across the nation and winning many of them. The dancer won the British Exhibition Championships four times along with his partner, Cherry. Goodman retired from the entertainment industry in the early 1970s.

His claim to fame came in 2004 when he became a household name as the head judge on Strictly Come Dancing, swiftly becoming one of the biggest stars on TV. He would also become the head judge on Dancing With The Stars in the US, at the same time as he was doing the BBC show.
