Big Hit Entertainment, the agency which manages BTS, won multiple defamation suits against an individual who repeatedly posted malicious comments about the global K-pop band on the internet.
The offender was sentenced to a maximum penalty– a total fine of 4 million South Korean Won (roughly Rs. 2,00,000) by the Seoul Eastern District Court.
Big Hit regularly initiates legal proceedings against perpetrators of malicious activities related to BTS, including ill-intentioned criticism, the spread of groundless information, sexual harassment, personal attacks, and defamation.
“Recently, the maximum possible sentence was levied on the perpetrator of malicious internet postings against whom we had filed three separate criminal defamation complaints,” Big Hit said in a statement.
“We are filing additional criminal complaints to individuals who continue to operate internet accounts and make malicious postings even after being questioned by the police for initial investigation,” they added. The company also appealed to the BTS fans to report them any malicious campaigns about the pop band that they might come across.
Recently, the band had addressed the 75th UN General Assembly. BTS singer V aka Taehyung had opened up about feeling frustrated and depressed.
