Legendary British chat show host Michael Parkinson interviewed actress Meg Ryan in 2003 which turned extremely awkward. After several short answers, Ryan told the host to “Wrap it up.”

Details of the seemingly frosty interview has surfaced after Sir Michael Parkinson has passed away at the age of 88. When Harry Met Sally actress was on the show to promote her then-upcoming movie In The Cut, which was an erotic thriller.

Ryan gave one word answers as she seemed offended as Parkinson’s line of questioning. She was reportedly rude to her fellow guests on the show, stylists and presenters Trinny and Susannah as she sat stone-faced through out the interview.

When Parkinson finally asked her what she would do if she were conducting the interview, she said, “Wrap it up.” He later dubbed her “an unhappy woman.” Ryan, in turn called him a “nut” and described his behavior “like a disapproving dad”.

However, in the years that followed, Parkinson apologized for his role in the frosty interview. Speaking to the Radio Times in 2021, he said: “I wish I hadn’t lost my temper with Meg Ryan. I wish I’d dealt with it in a more courteous manner. I was quite obviously angry with her and it’s not my business to be angry towards the guests. I came across as kind of pompous and I could have done better.”

When Parkinson was asked what he would say to the actress if he saw her again, he added: “I’m sorry. But you must understand that you played a part in it, too. Neither of us were on top form, and we were both discomforted.”
