‘Ozark’ Season 4 marks the final season of the Netflix series, and the first part arrives on January 21. There will be seven episodes and then the show will take a break, before dropping the other seven expectedly sometime in August 2022.
When we last saw the Byrdes, they had come a long way since deciding to move to the Ozarks for a second chance at life, literally. Marty had taken the decision to get into the good books of the Mexican cartel he and his money laundering partner were in bed with. When the partner was caught skimming money, the cartel wanted to end them both, but Marty convinced them that he could launder 500 million dollars of dirty money. How would he do this? By becoming an angel investor pumping cash into the failing businesses around the lake.

Since then, he tangled horns with the local crime family, the Langmores, and the drug-dealing dangers, the Snells. We have also seen the Byrde family struggle with strained interpersonal relationships, which were only accentuated when Wendy’s brother, who has rage issues, showed up.
Finally, Wendy had to make a choice when her brother’s existence threatened the tenuous relationship between the Byrdes and the cartel. Wendy chose the latter, bringing the ire of Ruth Langmore upon herself and her family. The firebrand who’d begun to feel affection towards Wendy’s brother decides to discontinue the association with the Byrdes and embraces her identity as a Langmore.
In the final moments of Season 3, the situation gets tense for the Byrdes as they go to meet the boss of the Navarro cartel, their employer, along with the cartel’s trusted attorney, Helen. However, upon presenting a “me or them” scenario to the cartel boss, she ends up with the short end of the stick. Helen’s shot dead in front of the Byrdes, as they arrive at the boss’s compound.
This is where Season 3 ends with the excellent use of ‘Ooh La La’ by Run the Jewels. So, when Season 4 starts, we see the Byrdes cleaning up Helen’s mess, literally again, since they have her brains on their face. So, what could Ozark Season 4 Part 1 have in store?

Firstly, we would see what is it that the Navarro crime lord wants from the family. He chose them over his trusted attorney, meaning he wants something the Byrde family can give him. This could be clean money to make a getaway from his life of crime.
Back across the border, we could see how Ruth becomes a greater force to reckon with, after teaming up with the Snell’s organization. There might also be more political complications involving the Byrdes riverboat casino, which is their biggest hope in clearing large chunks of cash. With the law enforcement already on their trail, the family could feel greater heat.
Ultimately, the question that remains is whether any amount of good that remains in Marty and his family is sufficient to cover up all the bad that they have done along the way, even it was just to survive.
