Ranbir Kapoor is reported to have charged a fee of 20 crore for his role as a dacoit in ‘Shamshera’, PTI reported. His character’s first look has sparked buzz surrounding the film. This is his first appearance on the big screen four years after ‘Sanju’ in 2018. The film, directed by Karan Malhotra, stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, and is produced by Yash Raj Films. It will be released on July 22 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

While Vaani Kapoor, who is starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the film, is said to have an extremely important role, it was reported that she only received Rs 5 crore for her performance.

In a statement where she speaks of her character Sona, she said, “Sona plays an important role in building the narrative. Sona has strong willpower, she’s confident, a go-getter yet has her own emotional vulnerabilities. She’s definitely one of the most refreshing characters I have played on screen.”

Actor Sanjay Dutt, who plays a ruthless cop in the movie, also reportedly received around Rs 8 crore for the film. According to Dutt, Shudh Singh, his character in ‘Shamshera’, was “pure evil”.

Dutt goes on to say, “He is menacing, he is untrustworthy and he will go to any length to wreak havoc. I loved the fact that Karan Malhotra created a villain like this and he thought of me to play this role. He gave me a free hand to bring Shudh Singh to life and I hope people like my effort.”
‘Shamshera’ is a period film set in the 1800s, and involves the struggle of a dacoit tribe to gain independence from the British rule.
