Popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead while driving his car in Mansa, a district in Punjab, on Sunday evening. The 28-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Punjab state’s top police official VK Bhawra said the preliminary investigation has revealed the killing to be an inter-gang rivalry. On Monday, five men were taken into custody in connection with his killing. The suspects were returning from Hemkund Sahib, a Himalayan Sikh shrine located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district when they were arrested.

Sidhu Moose Wala was not the first rapper to have been shot dead in broad daylight. According to ANI, at least 20 rappers, some internationally renowned ones, were killed in 2021.

1. Tupac Shakur – On September 13, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot four times in the chest when his car at a red light signal in Las Vegas. He succumbed to injuries six days later in the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. He was 25 at the time of his death.

2. XXXTentacion – Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, known professionally as XXXTentacion, was shot dead in an apparent robbery just outside RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on June 18, 2018. Four suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and armed robbery.

3. Young Dolph – The rapper, whose real name was Adolph Thornton, Jr., was shot dead outside Makeda’s Cookies, a South Memphis bakery on Airways Boulevard, in November 2021. An autopsy revealed that he suffered 22 gunshot wounds during the shooting. He was 36 at the time of his death.
