Sonya Eddy, who was known for playing the character of Epiphany on ABC’s General Hospital, died Monday at the age of 55.

Eddy’s friend, fellow actress Octavia Spencer confirmed the news Tuesday on Instagram, writing, “My friend Sonya Eddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of General Hospital fans will miss her.”

Frank Valentini, General Hospital executive producer, said in a statement: “I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and fans. She will be very missed.” 

Sonya Eddy net worth

It is not clear exactly what Eddy’s net worth was before she died. While Famous Birthdays puts it at $5 million, Net Worth Post puts it at $13 million.

Sonya Eddy career

Eddy made her acting debut in Ruby Dee’s play Zora Is My Name in 1990. Other stage credits include The Comedy of Errors, The Witch in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods and Bloody Mary in South Pacific.

Eddy later moved to Los Angeles and has appeared in a number of sitcoms, including Married… with Children, The Drew Carey Show, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, and Home Improvement. She had a recurring role in the CBS drama series, Joan of Arcadia, from 2004 to 2005.

In 2006, Eddy began playing the role of head nurse Epiphany Johnson in General Hospital on a recurring basis. She became a regular cast member from 2007 to 2008. She also went to become a regular cast member on the prime-time spin-off, General Hospital: Night Shift.

From 2016 to 2019, she played Tammy in the truTV comedy series, Those Who Can’t. 

“She left an indelible imprint in every person that she touched, through the screen and off,” Tyler Ford, her producing partner at Eddy Ford Entertainment, said in a statement.

Sonya Eddy family

Eddy was born in Concord, California, on June 17, 1967. Her pathway into acting began in college. She studied theatre and dance at the University of California, Davis. Not much is known about her family.
