Sonya Curry, the mother of NBA legend Stephen Curry, has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband Dell Curry, according to US media reports.

Sonya Curry, who is 55 years old, filed for the split in United States courts on June 14, according to reports from TMZ citing documents from the court. The media outlet also noted that the filings were still in the judicial pipelines and have not been finalised so far.

In a statement to People on Monday, the couple said, “As this comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus and desire is for our family’s continued happiness. We are so thankful for all the many blessings and successes!”

The statement added, “We stay committed to and supportive of our children and grandchildren and will remain on connected paths. We ask that our privacy be respected and prayer for our family as we move forward”, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Sonya and Dell Curry are the parents of two NBA stars. Stephen Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors while Seth is a part of the Philadelphia 76ers squad. The couple reportedly dated for nearly two decades tied the knot in 1988.

According to reports from TMZ, the two met while they were student-athletes at Virginia Tech.

Both Sonya and Dell Curry have often been seen in the NBA stands together to cheer for their sons. Moreover, when Stephen and Seth Curry were going head to head in a match in the 2019 NBA playoff, the couple was seen wearing gear that featured logos of both teams.

The couple, who has been married for decades, has two sons and one daughter. In addition to Stephen and Seth Curry, the two have also been parents to Sydel, who is the youngest sibling.
