Sooryavanshi, which finally hit the big screen on Friday following a two-year delay, has received an earth-shattering response from the audience. The Rohit Shetty entertainer has reportedly made a collection of close to 27 crores on day 1.
The movie, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, started on a good note with 50% occupancy during the morning shows. Trade experts had predicted that the cop drama would make around 20 crores on day 1 with COVID scare still existing among audiences. However, the numbers were much better than expected.

“Sooryavanshi ROARS on Day 1… REVIVES biz… Records EXCELLENT numbers, despite 50% occupancy in the largest market [Maharashtra]… Day 2 is SUPER-STRONG… Has potential to grow over the weekend… CINEMAS AND CINEGOERS ARE BACK… Fri Rs 26.29 cr.” senior trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Sooryavanshi also stars Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn, Jaaved Jaaferi, Jackie Shroff and Gulshan Grover in key roles.
Calling the response “phenomenal,” Media and Internet research analyst Karan Taurani told Koimoi, “The response has been phenomenal, the opening-day numbers are closer to the pre-Covid figures. This was anyway expected.
Earlier, people had written off the big screen, saying it wouldn’t be able to stand up against competition from OTT platforms. Ultimately, good content drives people to the cinemas. So, I think the next three to six months are going to be very strong because we have a slate of good films waiting to be released.”
The movie released globally on 1300 screens in 66 countries. The exact number of screens in India is yet to be shared by the makers.
The other major movies slated for theatrical release include Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukerji-Sidhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari-starrer Bunty Aur Babli 2, Salman Khan-starrer Antim and John Abraham-starrer Satyameva Jayate 2.
