Jerry Springer, a former mayor of Cincinnati and the illustrious host of the popular talk show The Jerry Springer Show in the 1990s, passed away peacefully on Thursday at the age of 79 in his suburban Chicago home.

The Jerry Springer Show has produced more on-air fights, screaming white nationalists, adulterous strippers, and transphobia than any other television program during the past 25 years.

Even if it may not be a particularly noteworthy accomplishment, it is unquestionably a phenomenon that changed the game and made daytime television a whole new and occasionally dangerous environment. It made its host a multimillionaire and served as the basis for an opera and a feature film.

Here are 5 most controversial moments:

1) Annabel Chong’s sex record

When Jerry invited Annabel Chong on the program in Season 5, it was yet another weird development for the audience.

Within a 10-hour period, Chong allegedly had sex with 251 different guys. When Springer invited Jasmin St. Clair to the show a few episodes later, the crowd still didn’t appear to be able to believe what they were hearing, but it only got more interesting.

St. Clair increased the number to 300 men, breaking a record she had previously achieved on her own after Chong’s.

2) Attack of the KKK Dad

The most outrageous and sole real fight to ever occur on The Jerry Springer Show, according to many viewers, took place in the Attack of the KKK Dad episode from Season 16.

Springer sought to seat them down with many members of the Klu Klux Klan while bringing on the late Irv Rubin, the Jewish Defense League’s leader at the time. Fans watched as security personnel sought to separate Rubin and his supporters from one another as soon as they entered the stage.

After the factions had finally calmed down, audience members started shouting Springer’s name, and the legendary presenter denounced Rubin for starting fights despite the KKK’s “horrible beliefs,” according to Springer.

After it aired, fans probably had questions about Springer’s brief monologue in which he compared the “anger” and “hate” that both sides felt toward one another.

3) Earl’s severed limbs

Intriguingly, two guests who appeared on The Jerry Springer Show decided to amputate one or more of their limbs.

During one of the episodes, a man by the name of Earl made an appearance to give Springer a detailed explanation of why he used lawn shears to remove his male genitalia. Earl claimed that he made the choice because he wanted to keep it out of the hands of a different individual who had supposedly been stalking him for years.

On the show, the two men challenged one another with divergent assertions about what their partnership entailed.

In another episode of the program, a woman by the name of Sandra made an appearance. According to Springer, this may have been “the most bizarre story we’ve done in our 15-year history.” Sandra explained that she belonged to the transgender community and that she used a power saw to amputate her legs because, according to her, her brain had instructed her to do so.

4) Naked-Peek-A-Boo

One of the videos with the highest views on The Jerry Springer Show’s YouTube channel may be found in a highly contentious episode.

In an episode from Season 25 titled Naked-Peek-A-Boo, two men appeared on the program to talk about their relationship. At the time, Judah and Johnny were great friends. Judah had just come out as gay and had come to the event to do a dance for Johnny.

He then started rapping to Johnny and said that he wanted to get a “naked-peek-a-boo,” confessing his love for his best friend and popping the question then and then.

The moment Johnny said yes and they made out live on television, the audience roared. With all the outrageous incidents over the years, it’s obvious that Springer was a facilitator of a setting that elevated individuals from all spheres of existence.

The family’s spokesperson and lifelong friend Jene Galvin stated this to WLWT on Thursday after confirming Springer’s passing.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried, whether that was politics, broadcasting, or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Galvin said.

5) Marriage with a farm animal

Certain conservatives once claimed that allowing homosexual couples to marry would lead to a guy wanting to marry his farm animals. In one of his more contentious episodes, Jerry interviews a man who is happily married to his four-legged companion and believes that he should be able to do whatever makes him happy.
