Mary Louise Parker has won the best actress for a leading role in a play for her role in “The Sound Inside”.

Other individuals nominated in the same category were Joaquina Kalukango for ‘Slave Play’, Laura Linney for ‘My Name Is Lucy Barton’ and Audra McDonald for ‘Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune’. 

According to the website of Tony Awards, ‘The Sound Inside’ play, which has been authored by Adam Rapp, is a story about “a brilliant Ivy League professor, a mysterious student, and a troubling favor that takes you behind the ivy-covered walls of Yale, and into New York’s literary haven, Greenwich Village.”

Jeffrey Richards, Lincoln Center Theater, Rebecca Gold, Evamere Entertainment, Eric Falkenstein, Salman Vienn Al-Rashid, Spencer Ross, Ken Greiner, Gemini Theatrical Investors, Scott H. Mauro are some of the lead producers of the Broadway play.

‘The Sound Inside’ has also been nominated in five other categories at the 2021 Tony Awards. These include:

-Best Play

-Best Original Score for theatre

-Best Lightings and Designs for a Play (Heather Gilbert)

-Best Sound Design of a Play (Daniel Kluger)

-Best Direction of a Play (David Cromer)

The award show will be followed by a two-hour concert on CBS
which is essentially an advertisement for Broadway titled ‘Broadway’s Back’.

The concert will include performances from the three Best
Musical contenders Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Tina: The
Tina Turner Musical as well as David Byrne, John Legend, and a reunion of the
cast members of Hairspray.

Jagged Little Pill received the most nominations
with 15 to its name followed by Moulin Rogue! The Musical, which received 14
nominations. Slave Play and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical received 12 nods each
while The Inheritance stands on 11 nominations
