Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, has officially announced that it will be producing a live-action adaptation of the popular video game series, Twisted Metal. While the release date is yet to be confirmed, it is believed that the show is still in its early stages of development, with a tentative 2023 release date in sight.


The series will follow a “motor-mouthed outsider” on a mission to deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In order to do so, he must team up with a trigger-happy car thief to survive the savage marauders who drive vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road. Along the way, they will encounter a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Release Date

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation is set to release on July 27, 2023, on NBC’s streaming service Peacock, according to recent announcements. Fans of the video game series can now mark their calendars and prepare for the high-octane action comedy to hit the small screen.


Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been confirmed as the executive producer and star of the series. He will play the role of John Doe, a “smart-ass milkman” who is given a chance to find his community, but only if he can survive the vehicular combat. Michael Jonathan Smith, a writer and executive producer of Cobra Kai, will serve as the showrunner and writer for the series.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Deadpool and Zombieland, are set to bring their unique brand of humor and action to the ‘Twisted Metal’ series. They have created an original take on the series, which promises to be a high-octane action comedy.
