Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, who died at 56, was unabashed when it comes to addressing her sexuality both on her website as well as on social media. From going back and forth on her sexual preference to having a tall criteria when it comes to her perfect partner, the Nothing Compares 2 U singer voiced it all.

O’Connor was not someone to hide details about her life and was pretty much an open book. From discussing her mental health struggles on public forums to writing about experimenting with her sexuality on social media and on her website, O’Connor did it all and more.

During her lifetime, she had four failed marriages with Steve Cooney, Nicholas Sommerlad, John Reynolds, and Barry Herridge. Despite failing to make her marriages work, and facing considerable trolling online, she never stopped freely expressing herself.

Sinead O’Connor once declared she was lesbian

After her third marriage failed, O’Connor announced that she she was a lesbian in 2000. However, five years later, she clarified in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she was merely “three-quarters heterosexual, one-quarter gay.”

On her website she explained further, saying she was “in fact 99.999% vaginally oriented but has experienced the odd shall we say ‘bark up the wrong tree’ and immensely enjoyed it.”

In 2014, she hinted yet again that she wants to date women. She wrote on her blog: “Having no joy anyway in the dating department. Dating site has thrown up f**k all. I’m not exactly a great prospect once they’ve googled me. I changed my ‘I am seeking a’ to ‘woman’. Just to see if I have any better luck. I notice at shows and generally life its women who want to marry me and or ‘do’ me etc. I been thinking for a few years anyway it ain’t really working out with men.  So we’ll see what happens.”

‘Hump Bray Cab’s whole fleet in one hour’

O’Connor was also not shy when it came to openly discussing her sexual desires. Back in 2011, she took to her website and Twitter account to describe her version of a good man and a good time.

“I recently read of a woman in America who married and regularly humps her truck. I don’t yet own a truck but I’m beginning to understand her head space. And am worried I too may be so desperate for sex that within days I might run up the road and hump Bray Cab’s whole fleet in one hour,” she wrote on her website.

Lack of sex life after failed marriages

She also lamented that her sex life was “so dire” that “inanimate objects are starting to look good.” She added that she’s “in the peak of her sexual prime and way too lovely to be living like a nun.” However, she made it clear that she was not willing to compromise when it comes to her standard of men.

“He must be no younger than 44,” she said, adding, that her man “has to be employed. Am not fussy in what capacity generally but vehicle clampers need not apply.” Furthermore, she preferred men who did not have dyed hair, she revealed.

Some of her additional demands were that the her partner “must not be named Brian or Nigel.” “I like me a hairy man so buffed and/or waxed need not apply,” she wrote. “Must be very ‘snuggly’. Not just wham-bam.” Also, “must be wham-bam.”
