Rapper Coolio died due to fentanyl, his family spokesperson Jarel (Jarez) Posey said. His family said Coolio also had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system, reported Variety.

Coolio died on September 28, 2023, at the age of 59. The Grammy-winning rapper, producer, and actor was found dead at a friend’s house, according to a TMZ report. His cause of death was not immediately clear, though it was later believed that he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Posey said investigators found Coolio’s severe asthma and decades-long consumption of cigarettes also played a factor in his death and his body’s inability to fight back.
