Andy Taylor is an English musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is a guitarist for the legendary British band Duran Duran. Andy recently revealed that he has stage 4 prostate cancer. The band made the heartbreaking announcement during their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday in Los Angeles.

The 61-year-old was not present at the ceremony, where the band gave a special performance of some of their biggest hits. Duran Duran revealed during their induction into the Rock Hall at the Microsoft Theater that Taylor had a setback from the diagnosis that prevented him from travelling to Los Angeles from Ibiza, Spain. During the ceremony, the band honoured Taylor by reading excerpts from an acceptance speech letter.

Who is Andy Taylor?

Andy Taylor was born on February 16, 1961. Taylor grew up in Cullercoats, England and attended Marden High School. He started playing the guitar at the age of eleven and was soon playing in local bands, even producing and writing songs when he was sixteen. Taylor dropped out of school to tour England and Europe with various bands, performing at men’s clubs and air force bases.

He married Tracey Wilson, one of Duran Duran’s hairstylists, in 1982. The couple has four children, Andrew, Georgina, Bethany and Isabella.

Taylor joined Duran Duran in 1980 and witnessed their meteoric rise to fame over the next five years.

However, he became displeased with the band’s keyboard-heavy synth pop and yearned to flex his rock muscles. During a break in Duran Duran’s schedule, he formed The Power Station with bassist John Taylor, Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and singer Robert Palmer. The band had three hit singles and performed at the 1985 Live Aid concert. Taylor also collaborated with Belinda Carlisle on her single “Mad About You” in 1986.

He rejoined Duran Duran in 2001 and released the album Astronaut in October 2004 with the original lineup of John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Simon Le Bon, and Nick Rhodes. Taylor and Duran Duran were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 1770 Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
