Mark Margolis, Emmy-nominated actor and best known for his role on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, died at the age of 83 on Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness.

His son Morgan Margolis, the CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment, announced his death. He said that he and his mother, Jacqueline were by his bedside at the time of death. “He was one of a kind,” said manager Robert Kolker of Red Letter Entertainment. “We won’t see his likes again. He was a treasured client and a lifelong friend. I was lucky to know him.”

His career spanned decades including a number of signature roles as the former drug kingpin Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and as Alberto The Shadow in Brian De Palma’s 1983 film Scarface.

Mark and Jacqueline Margolis were married for over 60 years. They got married on June 3, 1962. Not much is known about Jacqueline.

Jacqueline is from Far Rockway, New York. The pair got married in New York City. Some unconfirmed online reports said that she was an actress but chose not to continue her career in acting and instead support her husband’s acting career.

Previously, she booked minor parts in shows such as the 1999 movie Summer of Sam and two short films: 2003’s City Hall and 2013’s Mental Health.

They shared one son. Morgan is married to Heide Margolis, and they share three sons Ben, Aidan, and Henry Margolis, and are based out of Los Angeles. 

The family plans to have a private memorial and funeral.
