The 2023 Tony Award for Featured Actress in a Play was presented to Miriam Silverman on June 11 at the 76th Annual Tony Awards at United Palace in Washington Heights.

Her performance as Mavis Parodus Bryson in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window earned Silverman the award, keeping the Tony Award-winning tradition for that role. Frances Sternhagen took up the award for the 1972 revival, whereas Alice Ghostly won for her work in her role in the 1965 original production.

Who is Miriam Silverman?

Miriam Silverman is an American actress who won the 2023 Tony for Featured Actress in a Play.

She began her playing career on stage in various off-Broadway performances after graduating from Brown University, including the Public Theatre’s Hamlet in 2008. She was a finalist for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play in 2013 for her portrayal of Natalie in Joe Gilford’s Finks. The Ayad Akhtar play Junk marked her Broadway debut that year.

Silverman returned to Broadway in the 2023 revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s play The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, playing Mavis Bryson and winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. This was her first Tony nomination.

In addition to all this, Silverman is well-known for her appearances in the Hulu series Fleishman Is in Trouble and the Amazon series Dead Ringers. She also has a recurring role as Bernice in the Amazon series The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel. At the moment, she teaches theatre at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Regarding her personal life, Silverman wed actor Adam Green in 2009. The couple met while performing Awake and Sing! at the Arena Stage.
